Who Are We?

Magic Moments is a privately owned and family run nursery that operates from Kempsey village on the main road, offering “Outstanding” standards of care and education for nursery children aged 0-5 years.

It was established in September 2005 by Sharron the owner of the nursery who is a qualified nursery nurse herself, having worked in nurseries before having her own two children. Following her children starting school, Sharron worked at Rushwick Primary School in the Reception class gaining more valuable experience before opening her first nursery at Kempsey. She is also qualified as an early Years Lecturer and offers training and consultancy through a business linked to the nursery, which she and her partner (Natalie Burford – Nursery Manager) run and own together.

Hopefully you will have already booked a time to come and visit the nursery and experience what we do here at Magic Moments, but if you have not yet done so, please do not hesitate to get in touch so this can be arranged for you. A visit will enable you to sample a little of what we deliver and ask any questions that you may have.

Our Mission Statement

“Magic Moments for your child, peace of mind for you…”

Magic Moments aim to provide a fun, inclusive and positive learning environment for all children, where they can grow and develop into competent learners, confident individuals and effective contributors to society.
We aim to continuingly offer “Outstanding” care and education based around the individual needs of all children through an enriched balance of adult led experiences and children’s choice to explore and create.
The curriculum will be responsive to the needs and abilities of each and every child and will be provided for them in a safe and secure environment, in partnership with parents and the wider community. We aim to ensure this enables all children to achieve their full potential and develop into happy and healthy individuals who are able to build positive relationships in society.

Our Nursery

At Magic Moments our nursery Rooms are all located on the ground floor, with only staff and visitors needing to use the first floor of the building.

The nursery is divided into three main areas:

  • Baby Room – For our youngest attendees

  • Toddler Room – encouraging your toddlers

  • Preschool Room – Preparing your child

Our Rooms

In our small cosy baby room, we have kept numbers low – ensuring at all times that your little ones receive the individual attention they deserve. Our extensive range of equipment and resources will stimulate their senses as they begin to experience the world around them. A routine (based around the routine you have at home) will be established for your child enabling quiet time to be set-aside during the day for sleeping.

They will stay with the other babies until they become more independently mobile, when they will move on to our toddler room.

When they join “Toddlers” your child is becoming more curious and inquisitive about their surroundings, and this inquisitive nature is encouraged and nurtured in our toddler room. Children are given every opportunity to take part in exciting and new experiences as their confidence and independence grows.

A programme of activities designed around all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage will be specifically planned to ensure a fun day incorporating learning through play and including creative & sensory activities, free-play, music and singing, story time and physical play. Importance is placed on developing social skills and relationships. Children have free access to the outdoor arear throughout the day.

Planning for our under twos is specific to the needs of the individual children. We base our plans on observations that are carried out on likes, dislikes and preferences and developmental stages. Key Persons evaluate their observations & use these to determine future planning – this enables the children to make good progress at their own individual pace.

When children reach around two years old they will be ready to join our “Little preschool”. This large room has been set up with areas of continuous provision incorporating all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. In the preschool room, the children are split into smaller “key groups” with staff assigned to groups of 2-3 years olds and  separate “key groups” for children aged 3-4years – “Big preschool”. This ensures staff can differentiate between ages and stages of development and children are well prepared for school. The room is set up in the following areas:

Communication, Language and Literacy

Under this curriculum area we have a writing and mark making table, a ‘thinking / phonics tree’, story corner, a role play area that changes with the current theme and / or a home corner.

Mathematics

Under this curriculum area we have a maths area that has problem solving resources available for the children to access such as weighing, measuring, ordering and pattern making. We also have a construction corner and blocks area. Children are encouraged to solves problems and challenges through carefully planned activities.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Under this curriculum area we have a role play area, story corner, circle time carpet area with pupets and prompts and a protective space for very small groups of children to access where they can feel safe and secure.

Understanding the World

Under this curriculum area we have a Science / exploration area with many natural resources, wooden blocks, textured objects and a dark tent. We also have extensive I.C.T equipment including story phones, music, interactive tablets, laptop, PC, ‘TUF CAM’ which children use to operate their own video cameras, recordable micro phones and also an interest table which is linked to our pre-school topic.

Physical Development

Under this curriculum area we have areas for small world play & activities for fine motor development in our mark making and creative area. We also have soft play bricks & large equipment to develop large motor skills indoors and out.

Expressive arts and designs

Under this curriculum area we have a wet play area with sand & water, painting, creative activity, play dough & collage etc available to access at all times. We also have areas for children to display their 3D models or to keep anything that they have made that is precious to them.

By the time they have reached “Preschool” our children are constantly encountering new experiences and seeking to understand them in order to extend their skills, develop their confidence and build on what they already know.
